7.5 Quart Aluminum Charleston Style Rice Steamer
Prepare light, fluffy rice using a time-tested cooking technique with the 7.5 Quart Aluminum Charleston Style Rice Steamer by Carolina Cooker®. Inspired by the traditional Charleston rice steaming method, this vintage-style stovetop steamer is designed to cook rice evenly using gentle steam rather than direct boiling.
Crafted from durable aluminum, the steamer offers efficient heat distribution while remaining lightweight for easy handling. Its two-piece cooking system includes a main pot for boiling water and a separate steamer insert that allows rice to cook gradually through steam. This method helps preserve the rice’s natural texture, preventing it from becoming overly sticky or mushy.
Beyond rice, this versatile steamer can also be used to prepare vegetables and other foods. Designed specifically for stovetop use, it is not oven safe but can also be used outdoors with a compatible burner stand, making it suitable for both indoor kitchens and outdoor cooking setups.
How to Cook Rice in the Charleston Rice Cooker
- Boil Water
Add 8 cups of water to the main pot (with handles) and place it on the stove to bring to a boil. - Prepare the Rice
Add your desired amount of rice to the steamer insert. Pour in water at a ratio of 1.5 cups of water for every 1 cup of rice.
Note: Adjust the water ratio based on the rice variety if needed. - Insert the Steamer
Once the water in the main pot is nearly boiling, carefully place the steamer insert into the pot. Cover with the lid. Use heat-resistant gloves or mitts for safety. - Steam the Rice
Allow the rice to steam for about 10 minutes, then begin checking for doneness. Continue cooking until the desired texture is achieved. - Finish and Serve
Remove from heat, carefully lift out the insert, and serve the rice warm.
